Growing Information for Ireland
Sowing Time in Ireland
Sow outdoors from April to July. For earlier crops, sow in modules under cover from March.
Germination
7 to 14 days in soil temperatures between 8 and 20 degrees.
Transplanting
Transplant when seedlings have 4 to 6 true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle.
Spacing
Allow 45 centimetres between plants to encourage strong leaf development.
Position
Full sun to partial shade in fertile, well drained soil enriched with organic matter.
Harvest
Harvest outer leaves from July onwards. Plants will continue producing through autumn and winter.
Short on Time
If you would prefer to skip the early sowing stage, we also grow strong young kale plants here in Ireland. Many customers sow a tray of seeds and reserve a few plants as reassurance for the season ahead.

Note: if sowing later in the season, they will grow better in a polytunnel or greenhouse. We've even had them overwinter in an unheated polytunnel during a mild winter, so you may be able to push the boundaries if you live in a coastal location.
Our plants are grown in rhythm with the Irish seasons, so different varieties are ready at different times.
