Growing Information for Ireland
Sowing Time in Ireland
Sow outdoors from March to September for continuous harvests. Can also be sown under cover in cooler months.
Germination
4 to 10 days in soil temperatures between 8 and 20 degrees.
Spacing
Sow thinly in shallow drills. Thin seedlings to 10 to 15 centimetres apart for larger leaves, or grow closely for baby leaf harvest.
Position
Full sun or partial shade in well drained, fertile soil. Ideal for containers and small spaces.
Harvest
Harvest baby leaves from 3 to 4 weeks after sowing. Mature leaves can be picked from 5 to 6 weeks onwards. Cut regularly to encourage fresh growth.
Short on Time
Red mizuna is best direct sown for quick results, but many customers combine fast growing salad crops like mizuna with strong young vegetable plants for a steady mix of quick and long season harvests.
