Sowing Time in Ireland

Sow outdoors from April to May in a prepared seed bed, or sow in modules under cover from March for earlier planting.

Germination

7 to 14 days in soil temperatures between 10 and 18 degrees.

Transplanting

Transplant when seedlings have 4 to 5 true leaves.

Spacing

Allow 45 to 60 centimetres between plants to allow full head development.

Position

Full sun in firm, fertile soil enriched with organic matter.

Harvest

September to December. Can be left in the ground and harvested as needed.

If you prefer to skip the early sowing stage, we also grow strong young cabbage plants here in Ireland. Many customers sow a tray of seeds and reserve a few plants as reassurance for the season ahead.
